Ho ho hope your last game’s a cracker
This Saturday marks the halfway point in the season - it’s sped by! We want to extend our thanks to everyone who has helped make this first half of the season so impactful, we are grateful to everyone on the committee, all the coaches, umpires and volunteers. This weekend we let our hair down in true Wapping fashion at the Christmas social, there’s still time to get a ticket from your team’s social sec!
Passing the baton on
As we’re reaching the halfway point of this season, we are starting to plan for next and are really keen to ensure a smooth transition to the new committee, including more of a handover between roles. If there’s anything you have your eye on for next season, now is a great time to reach out to the secretary or to the person in the role to discuss a slow learning of the ropes. Find a list of positions here.

Second-time offender:
Remainder of the season ban from all club activities, including training, matches, CAWHL Summer League, coaching, club premises and events.
Third-time offender:
Permanent ban from the club.
Potential involvement of the police.
Any member found selling drugs to others will be permanently suspended from the club with immediate effect.
This policy applies to all members of the club, regardless of age or position. Possession of illegal substances is a serious issue, and we are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all members.
We encourage anyone who has concerns about drug use within the club to reach out to the welfare team (wappinghcwelfare@gmail.com).

City and wharf hockey league
It was great to hear from a few people after last week’s Back Post who were interested in entering a team for their company. The sign up form will be available after Christmas but we’re still really in need of a few people to help with the logistics, please email cityandwharfhockeyleague@gmail.com if you can help.
Team of the year
Next week we publish the TOTY points for the first half of the season - it’s looking close! Remember to not let your good deeds go unnoticed: if you do any Kidds volunteering or umpiring, make sure it’s on the spreadsheet, and if you’ve attended the umpire course or passed the qualification, please let the secretary know on wappingsecretary@gmail.com.
Umpiring: hear from Flo
With the Christmas break approaching, now is a good time to remind you that we always need more umpires. There are 4 courses before Christmas, please consider taking part.
Recently Flo, who plays for the Women’s 6s, undertook the umpiring course. She has already umpired for the kidds and signed up for a league game next weekend so we asked her to share her experiences:
Why did you sign up?
I signed up for umpiring because it’s not only a way to gain a better understanding of the rules of the game, but also to get more involved with the club and as a different way to experience hockey.
What did you have to do before attending the course?
Before the course there was an online test covering the rules and best practice which was useful background and made the course itself a really interesting discussion.
What happened on the course?
The session leaders (experienced umpires themselves) took us through the key topics (Advantage rule, penalty shorts and strokes as well as positioning) in a very interactive way, making the course very valuable!
Overall thoughts and what happens after the course
I expected it to be easy but there’s a lot that goes into high quality umpiring! My first umpiring experience was an U12 tournament which Smithy & Winky helped ease me into - and by the last few games I was feeling confident enough to umpire a game alone! Having the opportunity to umpire the Kidds games has been a great way to learn while building experience and confidence to take into Adult games.
Why others should sign up
It’s a great skill to develop and chance to get involved! I would highly reccomend the course and the club has been incredibly supportive
Also a reminder that individuals who umpire more than 10 games receive a discounted EOSD ticket!
