Sliding into slip week
And just like that we are almost at the first slip week of the season! However, we still have 16 teams in action this Saturday, including M9 and L6 derbies against East London. Make sure to stick around at JO and LV to support other Wapping teams that are in action.
Halloween
With just over 2 weeks to go until the Wapping halloween social on Saturday 4th November (@ The Castle, 7:30pm) I hope all teams are prepping their costumes. See some photos from last year for inspo below….
Slip week hockey
If you can no longer go a Saturday without putting on your astros or fancy a break from the stress of the London leagues then do not worry, you can sign up for social slip week hockey using the google form below. Depending on numbers a friendly mixed game or tournament will be organised with a trip to the pub after.

Umpiring sign up
Those who are qualified as umpires (at any level) please do sign up for umpiring slots in the coming weeks. We are asking all umpires to sign up for four games across the season so shotgun the slots early that work best with your schedule - it also makes life much easier for our ULO, Jane.
If you are struggling to find a game you are qualified for or nervous about umpiring at all please do message Jane who can link you up with one of our dedicated Umpire Development Officers to help support and progress your umpiring across the season.
If you are not yet qualified but would like to be, please do sign up for an online Level 1 course using this link.
Benefits of doing so include:
£15 in your bank account for every game you umpire (that’s 2.5 free pints #girlmath)
The chance to meet more people across the club, including other umpires and those playing in other Wapping teams
The ability to develop a new skill and progress in your umpiring ability
L’ump month continues!
Thanks for all the donations so far! Please do continue to donate where you can here.
Some fun ways to get involved if you haven’t already:
Wear some pink as a team: socks, hair ribbons, laces…. the options are endless!
Post and re-post L’Ump month content on your team socials and personal Instagrams
Have a pink themed bake off at training or your Saturday match - post the winner on socials and get donating
Donate what you can to the JustGiving page
Save a life
There’s been a couple of cases in the hockey community recently where quick reactions from other players have saved lives. Both JO and LV have defibrillators so if ever someone collapses with a suspected cardiac arrest do not hesitate to run and ask for them. Defibrillator machines literally talk you through exactly what to do and will not shock the person unless there is no pulse, so no medical training is required to use them.
It has been announced that all underground/overground and some bus stations will have defibrillators and the London Ambulance Service are trying to train as many people on steps to take that will help save a life in the event of cardiac arrest. There is a 1min15 sec video everyone should watch and they are holding free training events across London.
If you are ever in the position where you need to know where your nearest defibrillator is - www.defibfinder.uk
